Feedforward Health is a publication about anticipatory medicine. We write about what happens when health systems stop waiting for things to go wrong and start preparing for what comes next.
The work here sits at the intersection of clinical practice, health technology, ethics, and organizational design. We cover specific problems: how triage algorithms fail elderly patients, what happens when a predictive model disagrees with a patient's wishes, who carries liability when autonomous clinical systems make errors, and how data portability gaps cause real medication errors in real hospitals.
Who we are
Dr. Ali Okhowat, MD, MPH, CCFP is a family physician and health technologist based in British Columbia. He is Chief Innovation Officer at Autochart.ai, where he builds AI health assistants for clinical documentation. His writing focuses on the technical and ethical dimensions of health AI.
Dr. Tim Foggin is a physician and health systems strategist. His work centers on anticipatory clinical practice, organizational readiness, and the feedforward paradigm in healthcare delivery.
What we publish
Our foundational essay series, The Four Arcs of Anticipation, lays out the core argument: that health systems can be designed around hope, relationship, anticipation, trust, adaptation, and cultural readiness. The Clinical Arc (essays A1 through A3) addresses individual practice. The Operational Arc (B1 through B3) addresses organizational thinking.
Our ongoing Autonomy in Healthcare series examines specific technical and ethical questions about autonomous systems in clinical settings, from closed-loop insulin pumps to predictive health scoring to data sovereignty.
